ATTENDANCE POLICY

BOOSTERS

Participation with the boosters is voluntary – but it is strongly encouraged.  In fact, there is no way the William Byrd Band program could function at the current level, without the strong support of our parents.  Volunteers are needed to build, sew, work concessions – at Blue Ridge Festival of Bands, drive trucks, chaperone, haul props, load equipment, feed kids, plan events… and so much more….

  • What makes a band successful?
    • It is the parents and guardians of the band students. It takes a lot of volunteers to keep our nearly 100 member band running smoothly.
    • These unsung hero’s work tirelessly behind the scenes to help make the bands and color guard the best they can be.  They take on the organizing and execution of tasks to free up the band directors to dedicate their time to the students.  Without your help, our bands would not be able to perform at the level they do.

  • What can I do to help?
    • There are many opportunities during the year to help. Here are just a few activities that need adult volunteers:
      • Chaperone: Adult volunteers assist the band at all football games and band competitions. Duties can include serving water, helping with uniforms and instruments, and help ensure the safety of all band students.
      • Pit Crew / Screen Crew: During football half-time performances and competitions, the percussion equipment and our show props must be moved on and off the field in a timely manner. Volunteers are also needed to help load and unload our equipment for competitions.
      • Fundraising and Ways and Means: Each year, the boosters organize activities to raise funds for the general band and student accounts. Fundraisers include Blue Ridge Festival of Bands, fruit sale, and more
  • What if I can’t be there for every activity?
    • No Problem! The Boosters understand the importance of other family obligations. Not everyone can be there for everything. However, we do hope that each family can volunteer throughout the year. By doing this, we will not only be able to provide everything needed for our band students, but we will also share in the responsibilities and show our support.
